<br />Uniformed, "safety-member" personnel and civilian <br />Paramedics assigned to the 24 hour shift schedule and <br />Fire Services Dispatchers assigned to the 12 hour shift <br />schedule, whose standard work unit is a 12 hour day, <br />shall be charged sick leave at the rate of one day for <br />each 12 hours absent. For such employees, the minimum <br />sick leave increment of one-fourth day is three hours, <br />with fractional usage rounded upward to the next higher <br />multiple of three. <br /> <br />In those cases when a uniformed, "safety-member" <br />employee or civilian Paramedic is transferred between 24 <br />hour shift and regular 40 hour shift schedules, the <br />employee's earned sick leave, which is accrued in hours, <br />shall be converted to agree with the number of working <br />hours per day in the newly assigned schedule. <br /> <br />E. Extended. The City Manager may grant in writing leave <br />up to six months without pay to an employee who has <br />exhausted all of his or her accrued sick leave if the <br />City physician or a licensed physician designated by the <br />City Manager indicates that the employee will be <br />sufficiently recovered to return to his or her <br />employment wi thin a six-month period. Prior to the <br />expiration of the additional six-month period, the <br />employee may return to his or her position, provided <br />that the employee has a certificate from one of the <br />above mentioned physicians stating that the employee is <br />able to perform all the duties of his or her position <br />without qualification. In addition to the above, the <br />City Manager may grant in writing an extension of the <br />original six-month period not to exceed a total of one <br />year without pay. <br /> <br />F. <br /> <br />Extension by Use of Vacation. <br />leave has been exhausted, he <br />permission to take any earned <br />have accrued. <br /> <br />After an employee's sick <br />or she may be granted <br />vacation he or she may <br /> <br />G.
