<br />4.9 Demotion. <br /> <br />A. Fire Management Group A Classes: <br /> <br />1. When an employee in a Fire Management Group A <br />class is demoted to a position in a lower <br />classification, he or she shall be placed at a <br />rate in the lower salary rate range which provides <br />at least a five percent (5%) reduction in pay. <br /> <br />2. A promotional employee who is rejected during the <br />probationary period from a Fire Management Group A <br />class shall be returned to the classification in <br />which he or she holds regular status and at <br />his or her former salary step, unless the reasons <br />for failure to complete probation would also be <br />cause for dismissal from City service. <br /> <br />B. Fire Management Group B Classes: When an employee in a <br />Fire Management Group B class is demoted to a position <br />in a lower classification, his or her salary rate shall <br />be fixed in the appropriate salary rate range for the <br />lower classification accordance with the following <br />provisions: <br /> <br />1. The salary rate shall be reduced by at least one <br />(1) step [approximately five percent (5%)]. <br /> <br />2. The new salary rate must be within the appropriate <br />salary rate range. <br /> <br />3. The new salary rate shall not be higher than the <br />salary step to which the employee would have been <br />entitled had his or her service time in the higher <br />classification been spent in the lower <br />classification. <br /> <br />4. A promotional employee who is rejected during the <br />probationary period from a Fire Management Group B <br />class shall be returned to the classification in <br />which he or she holds regular status and at his or <br />her former salary step, unless the reasons for <br />failure to complete probation would also be cause <br />for dismissal from City service. <br /> <br />17 <br />
