Orange County) the other channel is for the other dispatch center.
The radio uses a "caller ID" system. That is, whenever you push down, or "click ", on
the microphone handle the number of your cab is printed on a video screen in front of
the dispatcher. This identifies the caller to the dispatcher. There is no need to call
your number.
There are times when your reception or transmission will be weak or intermittent.
Just move the cab a short distance and try again. Sometimes you can be in what is
called a "dead spot". Moving a short distance will change that.
USING THE RADID
When you first come on the air, wait for fifteen seconds of silence before you click in.
This is to insure that the dispatcher is not listening to another driver. Click your
microphone twice and release. Wait to hear the dispatcher call your number.
Remember hesitate one second before talking. There is a slight delay between
clicking down the mike and the start of transmission.
At the beginning of your shift you may ask for status in all zones to be read. After
that you must pick three zones to inquire about. You will be told what position you
would be if you chose that zone; i.e. first in zone one, three in zone two etc. Pick your
zone and then listen carefully to your radio. A professional can track the movement in
other zones. This can allow you to change zones to improve your status or move to a
zone that is more active.
The radio is like a telephone party line with many users, so always be brief and to the
point. Don't Editorialize. If you have a complaint or dispute DO NOT DO IT ON
THE AIR. Call the office and talk to management.
Be professional Tke real audience is our passengers listening to the radio.
RADIO CODES
10 -2 READY TO WORK
10 -6 OFF RADIO /SHORT BREAK/HOLD STATUS
(no more than S minutes)
10 -7 OFF THE RADIO/REMOVE STATUS
(Longer break: End of day, meal, personal business etc.)
10 -8 FINISHED ORDER - READY FOR ZONE
10 -9 PLEASE REPEAT TRANSMISSION
18
