career path to contact them for advice as they pursue a particular job or career goal. This
is one avenue we intend to use to guide our youth to gain career awareness; make career
decisions and plans; and understand market needs, trends and opportunities.

Element Number 9:

Anthony Serrano, Sports Club Director, and mentor/coach will conduct follow-up service
for all youthinvo]yed in this program, for one year. Anthony already follows up on
youth that drop out of our present after-school boxing program. He then assesses the
individual need and addresses that need accordingly (e.g., drug/alcohol
counseling/intervention, academic counseling, career counseling). We currently and will
continue to refer youth to community and social agencies deemed appropriate for
particular needs.

Element Number 10:

Anthony Serrano is a licensed and experienced drug and alcohol counselor. He has and
will continue to provide prevention and intervention counseling. He also provided
academic counseling to those youth who are in their last year of high school. Anthony,
will assist youth in making and implementing informed educational and occupational
choices. He will refer many of these youth to WIA as deemed appropriate, thus
developing a linkage to another agency that is better equipped to handle specific need.

PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES:

Short-term outcomes include maintaining or increasing GPA, literacy and numeracy
scores on the TABE from pre to post testing. Intermediate outcome measures include
continued inyolvement with the after-school boxing club and/or peer mentoring. Long-
term outcome includes high-school diploma, job placement and trade school or college
entry and completion.

Short-term outcomes (i.e., increased TABE scores, documented positive character
change): Projected percent of youth who achieve one or both objective = 75% (n=22.5;
N= 30)

We intend to give our youth a pre and post literacy/numeracy test, in order to ensure
meeting literacy and numeracy standards set by WIA. Detailed case notes will provide
evidence of positive character change.

Intermediate outcome (i.e., continued program involvement and peer mentor
involvement): Projected percent of youth who achieve one of combination of objectives =
70% (n~21; N~ 30)

To ensure that OCYC youth graduate from high school, get ajob after high school, or
continue a college bound trajectory we plan to engage them to continue as members of
our after-school boxing club. Moreover, we plan to invite seasoned members to get

3
