COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />· reported Civic Center Drive between St. Joseph's Church and the railroad <br /> tracks was in need of resurfacing; <br />· encouraged constituents to contact him at 836-0334 to report infrastructure <br /> needs or other problems; and <br />· indicated his neighbor, Barbara Berry, who had been involved in City historic <br /> preservation efforts had recently passed away and asked that the Council <br /> meeting be adjourned in her memory. <br /> <br />Councilmember Bist: <br /> · expressed support for the Commercial Code Enforcement Program, indicating <br /> the Program would in addition to abating illegal banners and signs provide for <br /> review of conformance with CUP's, an activity not currently undertaken due to <br /> insufficient staff; <br /> · opined that the trench cut ordinance needed to be improved to ensure that <br /> utilities not complying are "brought into the fold"; <br /> · inquired as to how long the Assembly of God Church might stay at its current <br /> location (for 90 days beginning July 1, 1999 with possible deferment to January <br /> 1,2000 per Public Works Agency Executive Director Jim Ross); <br /> · asked when the Discovery Science Center cube exterior skin would be installed <br /> (2-3 months per Planning and Building Agency Executive Director Robyn <br /> Uptegraff); and <br /> · noted Councilmember Moreno had not offered any nominations for the Council <br /> to consider for appointment to the Boards and Commissions and pointed out <br /> the Ward 1 seat on the Library Board was vacant. <br /> <br />Councilmember Lutz: <br /> · reported the 3rd annual Plein Air Artist competition would get underway this <br /> week with a welcome to the artists at Palm Court, the painters could be viewed <br /> at work at over 20 locations throughout Santa Ana, and the completed paintings <br /> might be viewed at the Bowers Museum on June 27 between 10:00 a.m. and <br /> 3:00 p.m.(S2 entrance fee); and <br /> · reported the City had formally signed the agreement to receive $3 million in <br /> Empowerment Zone funds at Pio Pico Elementary School that morning at an <br /> event attended by Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Andrew <br /> Cuomo, Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, Mayor Pulido and other dignitaries. <br /> <br />Councilmember McGuigan: <br /> · suggested staff coordinate development of an educational component for the <br /> Commercial Code Enforcement Program with the Chamber of Commerce; and <br /> · encouraged the audience to attend the City's Fourth of July celebration and <br /> fireworks show at Centennial Park (free admission). <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 204 JUNE 21, 1999 <br /> <br /> <br />
