CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Bist <br />• Reported that she had attended the National Crime Prevention <br />Conference in Washington D.C. and was sponsored by the Boys <br />and Girls Club. She noted that she was able to attend many <br />workshops, network with other officials from various agencies and <br />went on a police ride -along <br />• Suggested that the Cable Television Advisory Board look at <br />ways to improve the coverage of Council meetings, including <br />methods of providing the public with more information relative to <br />Council agenda items and procedures <br />Mayor Pro Tom Lutz <br />• Announced that the "Sights and Sounds of Santa Ana" events <br />held on September 22-24 at the old Masonic Temple (Santa Ana <br />Performing Arts Center), Bowers Museum, and the Santa Ana <br />Zoo were very successful and well attended. He further thanked <br />Ann Andres for her efforts in coordinating the Plein Air Art events, <br />and Cleve Williams, Executive Director, Parks, Recreation, and <br />Community Services Agency for acquiring renown jazz and blues <br />artists for these events. <br />• Complimented the Mayor on his State of the City address given <br />last week at the old Masonic Temple and attended by business <br />and neighborhood leaders <br />• Requested that the Council adjourn in the memory of Beverly <br />Nestande, who was active in volunteer groups and noted for her <br />efforts devoted to the Olive Crest Children's Home <br />• Announced that the Washington Square Neighborhood <br />Association Fall Concert would be held on October 7, 2000, and <br />would feature the jazz and blues group entitled "Simple <br />Pleasures" <br />Councilmember McGuivan <br />• Complimented Los Angeles Times writer David Lansing and artist <br />Paul Rodriguez for the article in the Times relative to Santa <br />Ana's Downtown area <br />• Also requested that the Council adjourn in the memory of Beverly <br />Nestande, who was very involved with Children in Santa Ana and <br />Orange County.
