Purpose: <br /> <br />This procedure is designed to protect AMX employees and the general public by restricting access <br />to areas for physically hazardous work and areas containing contaminated materials. <br /> <br />II. Regulatory References: <br /> <br />OSHA requires that site control be established and maintained for hazardous waste operations, <br />including clean-up operations, under the Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response <br />standards, 29 CFR 1910.120 and 29 CFR 1926.65. <br /> <br />III. Scope: <br /> <br />This procedure applies to all AMX employees, visitors, client personnel, and regulatory agents. <br />Violation ofthe site control program may expose the violator to injury. <br /> <br />IV. Definitions: <br /> <br />Buddy system. Organizing employees into work groups so that each member of the work group is <br />designated to be observed by at least one other member in the work group. The purpose <br />of the buddy system is to provide rapid recognition of a person in "trouble" and rapid <br />summoning of assistance. <br />Clean-up operation. An operation where hazardous substances are removed, contained, <br />incinerated, neutralized, stabilized, cleared-up, or in any other manner processed or <br />handled with the ultimate goal of making the site safer for people or the environment. <br />Contamination Reduction Zone. A field area established in the Site Safety Plan and recorded <br />on the site maps that serves as a buffer zone between the contaminated area (Exclusion <br />Zone) and the uncontaminated areas (Support Zone).
