c. An adequate number of borings shall be drilled for the pavement
and embankment.
d. Sampling and testing for aerially deposited lead (ADL) adjacent
to the ramps shall be included.
e. The above exploration program will be summarized on a Boring
Location Map and this map will be used to process for
encroachment permits. Bulk samples of near - surface soils will
be collected for R -value and maximum density tests. The
Consultant shall determine the appropriate Traffic Indices for the
roadways.
f. It will be the responsibility of the Consultant to notify
Underground Service Alert, prepare necessary traffic control
plans, and provide traffic control for the field investigations.
g. Geotechnical Engineering Analyses - Results obtained from the
field investigation and laboratory testing program will be used to
establish idealized soil profiles and design strength parameters
for pavement, embankment slope stability and settlement
calculations. Composite pavement structural sections will be
designed based on R- values obtained from the laboratory tests
and Traffic Indices using the Caltrans design method. Corrosion
recommendations will be provided for the buried utilities and
drainage devices.
h. Report Preparation — The following report shall be submitted in
accordance with Caltrans requirements:
i. Geotechnical Design Report (GDR) presenting results of
field investigation and laboratory testing, engineering
analyses for embankment stability and settlement.
ii. Materials Report presenting field and laboratory results
and engineering analyses for pavement design and soil
corrosivity.
iii. Pavement Design Report presenting results of field
investigation and engineering analyses.
iv. ADL Report outlining the findings of the field investigation
and any actions or mitigation required to meet current
Caltrans and Department of Toxic Substances Control
standards regarding soil with ADL.
4. Utility Research & Coordination — With information derived from the
initial coordination efforts, the Consultant shall develop existing utility
sheets. Efforts include:
a. Continued coordination with utility companies, including
13
