Task 2: Public Outreach <br />Housing element law reQuires that a diligent <br />nonprofit groups, housing advocates, and thi <br />development and implementation of the hou: <br />program is designed to achieve three objecti, <br />of State law; 2) develop a vision and foundat <br />and 3) provide consensus on key housing inii <br />consist of the following components: <br />• Educational Workshop (s)—to provide critical housing -related <br />knowledge to the Planning Commission and Community <br />Redevelopment and Housing Commission; <br />• City Council Interviews —to educate the City Council and hear <br />from them on a range of housing issues and the most important <br />issues of concern to them; <br />• Visioning Session with the City Council to define the Ciy's <br />housing vision, its relationship to the overall City vision, and the <br />highlighting of potential housing program initiatives; <br />• Community workshops and stakeholder workshop(s) to provide <br />communitywide and focused input on community housing needs <br />and potential programmatic solutions; and <br />• Public Hearings before the elected officials and the public to <br />discuss the Housing Element and its program initiatives as well <br />as to adopt the Housing Element <br />2A Educational Session <br />In order to provide a foundation for a meaningful discussion of a housing <br />vision under Task 2.3 and how it contributes to the Ciy's broader goals <br />reo_uires that the participants have a common set of knowledge. The <br />following three venues provide opportunity for the City Council, <br />Planning Commission, and Redevelopment and Housing Commission to <br />learn about the Housing Element and provide us insight into priorities to <br />address in the Housing Visioning Session and Housing Element. <br />City Council Educational Workshop <br />This session will provide a common basis of knowledge that would serve <br />as a foundation for the Visioning Session. The general outline would be <br />to provide an introduction about successful planning, provide a Housing <br />Element 101 overview, and then highlight briefly Santa Ana's planning <br />context with regard to housing adeQuacy, availability, and affordability. <br />The session would then focus on housing and its inter -relationship with <br />the economy, land use, transportation, and other planning issues.
