Planning Commission/Community Redevelopment and Housing
Commission
We will perform workshops, individually, with the Planning Commission
and Community Redevelopment and Housing Commission. Rather than
focus on policy level discussion, we propose to focus more on the nuts
and bolts of the Housing Element, a synopsis of key housing needs, and
then solicit ideas for potential programmatic initiatives. Since both these
bodies will provide substantial input into the Housing Element, we
anticipate soliciting input from the commissioners regarding specific
concerns that need to be addressed in the Housing Element update.
We assume the City will provide all arrangements for the facility and the
arrangements to make the facility suitable for a presentation. The City
will provide notices and circulate them through their Community
Network or other clearinghouses. We will prepare the notices for the
meeting in three languages, namely English, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
To best focus resources, our role will be to primarily strategize on the
type of format most suitable for the venue and to prepare materials.
Deliverables
• Preparation, attendance, and lead for study session
• PowerPoint and/or other materials for each meeting
2.2 Interviews
The City Council interviews provide an opportunity to talk with electeds
regarding the most critical issues on their mind. We typically conduct
these interviews in an informal manner, with a selection of three or four
Questions to ask as a starting point. In our experience, City Council
interviews should be designed to elicit the decisionmakers feelings about
the role of housing in achieving the City's vision, how active the City
should be in the housing arena, what they like or wish could be changed,
and the major concerns on their mind. In an informal setting, this type of
dialog allows the Consultant Team and City staff to become familiar with
City Council priorities and potential areas of focus.
Deliverables
• Summary of Questions and comments
Page 2-14 Proposal to City of Santa Ma
