2.3 Setting the Vision
Santa Ana's vision is to be the dynamic urban c ORRgE
acclaimed for its investment in children, neighb pride, end
cultural experiences, appreciation of diversity, th conomic c
Quality government services, and leadership amon is ci
However, in fulfilling this vision, the City could bene
process to clearly define the role of housing in becoming n
center of Orange County and to provide clarity and direction for City
staff in implementing their respective housing programs and activities.
We have retained the services of Steve PonTell, a renowned facilitator,
to conduct a study session with the City Council. The purpose of the
study session will be to clarify the role of housing in achieving Santa
Ana's vision. Prior to the session, we will work withyou regarding the
type of issues to be addressed, including:
• What type of housing is needed to facilitate and encourage a
thriving economic climate and recruit the future workforce?
• What types and prices of housing are necessary to provide a
broad range of housing choices suited to different lifestyles?
• To what extent should the City promote Quality rental and
ownership assistance to its community?
• What types of housing assistance and support services should be
provided to the community.
• How do we foster a Quality living environment consisting of a
mosaic of neighborhoods?
The format for the City Council session will mirror the format and
structure used for the last workshop that Steve PonTell conducted for
the City Council. The workshop will be interactive with the City Council,
with Steve facilitating the discussion. Following the workshop, we will
draft a housing vision and a set of priorities that can bring definition and
unified purpose to the City's housing and community development
activities. We are assuming two rounds of edits and review by City staff.
Deliverables
Preparation, attendance, and lead for study session
PowerPoint and/or other materials for each meeting
Draft and final housing vision
Housing Element Update THE PLANNING CENTER I Page 2-15
