City Lights Skate Park and Dream Center ($10,000): City Lights Skate Park and Dream Center was <br />established in 1992 in Santa Ana to provide opportunities for young people to become involved in sports <br />as an alternative to joining gangs. The City Lights Dream Center is currently hosting clinics to teach inner <br />city kids about the benefits involved in the skating world. Pastor Chris, along with the support and <br />contacts of his nephew, professional skater Christian Hosoi, has built an entire skate park in the lot behind <br />the Ross Street building. These funds will be used to provide industrial lighting in the skate park. <br />Santa Ana YMCA Soccer /Sports Field ($100,000): The Santa Ana YMCA (Young Men's Christian <br />Association) is currently in the process of being built at 2100 W. Alton Parkway at Armstrong Ranch, a <br />development that features a high school, single family homes, and a future church. The Santa Ana YMCA <br />will be a place for thousands of youth who attend school nearby to explore possibilities in a nurturing and <br />positive environment. There are 80,000 youth under 18 within 3 miles of the site, and eight K -12 schools <br />with 12,000 students within 1.5 miles. These funds will go toward the building of a new soccer /sports <br />field which will provide access to hundreds more youth who are turned away from soccer programs due to <br />lack of fields and resources. <br />Hoover Elementary School Playground Upgrade ($55,661): Hoover Elementary School in Santa Ana <br />services almost 900 students, 88% of whom are eligible for discounted lunches. Hoover Elementary is in <br />need of completing its playground upgrade and will purchase and install a playcraft structure in its <br />playground. Funds will go to the Santa Ana Unified School District for completion of this project. <br />Lien Doan Outdoor Equipment Upgrade (Boy Scout/Girl Scout Troop 680) ($14,000): Lien Doan Huong <br />Dao Truong Son provides quality year -round programs for young children within Orange County. Over <br />1,000 youth and their families have been served since 1980 by this organization and currently over 150 <br />boys and girls are members of this scout troop. Boys and girls between seven and 18 years old are <br />introduced to scouting principles and practices such as serving society and helping others. These funds <br />will allow this troop to purchase outdoor equipment and pay the required fees associated with outdoor <br />activities no more than three times prior to December 31, 2008. <br />H. Louis Lake Senior Center Outdoor Fitness Equipment ($30,000): The H. Louis Lake Senior Center in <br />Garden Grove offers seniors 50 years and older a multitude of services and activities. The Center is an <br />active participant Senior Citizen's Center. The Center offers many volunteer opportunities, activities, <br />travel opportunities, classes (some in conjunction with Garden Grove Unified School District), holiday <br />parties, sports and special events. The funds will go toward purchasing seven to eight pieces of outdoor <br />fitness equipment for the City of Garden Grove open space park area near the H. Louis Lake Senior <br />Center. Proximity to the Senior Center would allow staff to conduct fitness programs for the seniors. <br />Staff would also be able to teach seniors to use the equipment on their own, and encourage its use on a <br />regular basis to support healthy aging of Center participants. Funds will go to the City of Garden Grove <br />for completion of this project. <br />The Performing Arts Guild of Orange County Barrier Free Upgrades ($100,000): The Performing Arts <br />Guild of Orange County was founded as a 501 (c) (3) non - profit organization and built on the belief that <br />music and the arts are a vital necessity in our community, which should also be available to people of all <br />levels of ability and disability. The Performing Arts Guild's mission is to develop a set of full functioning <br />facilities in our local communities to provide innovative and affordable training of the major performing <br />arts for all students. The Performing Arts Guild operates in music studios and classrooms in Santa Ana. <br />The funds will help make these studios and classrooms barrier free in compliance with the ADA <br />(Americans with Disabilities Act) so that students of all physical ability levels can be appropriately <br />served. The music equipment, rehearsal facility and recording training studios will also need to be <br />retrofitted to accommodate ADA requirements. <br />Page 5 <br />
