<br />COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />. Noted that the action taken by the Council tonight related to the <br />Quiet Zones will be beneficial for residents most impacted by train <br />sirens and noise. <br /> <br />Councilmember Benavides <br />. Asked the City Attorney to continue negotiations on the City's <br />behalf related to Quiet Zone responsibility and liability so that the <br />City can be ready in 2010 when the zones are anticipated to be <br />implemented. <br />. Reminded residents that the November 4th election was coming up <br />and urged voters to take advantage of the privilege to vote and to <br />vote early at Main Place Mall in Santa Ana. <br /> <br />Councilmember Bustamante <br />. Thanked the Park Santiago Neighborhood for their support of the <br />City's efforts related to Quiet Zones in the City. <br />. Reminded residents to keep their children safe on Halloween night. <br /> <br />Councilmember Martinez <br />. Also reminded residents to have a safe and happy Halloween. <br /> <br />Council member Sarmiento <br />. Thanked the Mayor for his leadership on the OCTA Board of <br />Directors relative to railroad grade crossing safety enhancement <br />and safety measures related to Quiet Zone implementation in Santa <br />Ana. <br />. Announced that the Registrar of Voters is accepting voter <br />registration applications until midnight, October 20, 2008. <br />. Noted that the new proposed YMCA facility in Santa Ana is one <br />more positive alternative for our youth. <br />. Thanked the Council's Public Safety Committee for their efforts in <br />identifying several hot spots in the City and thanked the police <br />department public safety operation in the Bishop Manor area where <br />several law enforcement agencies, with the cooperation of the <br />community, coordinated efforts to curtail illegal activities; he noted <br />that several arrests were made and weapons and narcotics seized. <br /> <br />Mavor Pro Tem Alvarez <br />. Thanked the Police Department for its commendable work last <br />week in collecting several weapons and narcotics in a collaborative <br />effort with other agencies and the community; she further noted that <br />the City is targeting areas identified as being in the top ten hot <br />spots in the City and in addition to the collection of arms and <br />narcotics, several arrests were made. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES <br /> <br />275 <br /> <br />OCTOBER 20, 2008 <br />
