<br />1. Tutoring, study skills training, and instruction, leading to completion of secondary <br />school, including dropout prevention strategies; <br /> <br />3. Summer employment opportunities that are directly linked to academic and <br />occupational learning (this element cannot be offered as a stand-alone activity); <br /> <br />4. As appropriate, paid and unpaid work experiences, including internships and job <br />shadowing; <br /> <br />6. Leadership development opportunities, which may include community service and <br />peer-centered activities encouraging responsibility and other positive social behaviors <br />during non-school hours, as appropriate; <br /> <br />7. Supportive Services (e.g., tools, books, clothing, etc.); <br /> <br />8. Adult Mentoring for the period of participation and a subsequent period, for a total of <br />not less than 12 months; <br /> <br />9. Follow-up services for minimum of 12 months after the completion of participation <br />as appropriate; and <br /> <br />10. Comprehensive guidance and counseling, which may include drug and alcohol <br />abuse counseling and referral, as appropriate. <br /> <br />In addition to providing the above services, we may refer participants to organizations <br />offering the remaining 2 WIA elements when appropriate: (2) Alternative secondary school <br />services; (5) Occupational skill training. <br /> <br />5. Planned outcomes. <br />As a realistic goal, we expect 65% of our program participants to either obtain <br />employment or enroll in an accredited educational program before the end of the program <br />year. Among those who need more help before they can find employment or some <br />educational program, we nonetheless expect to see improvement in their basic skills while <br />receiving services at our agency. For these clients, successful employment may occur after <br />the end of our grant year. <br /> <br />6. The basic program approach (workshop/classroom/in the community) <br />Our basic program approach will be to establish an action plan for each participant <br />and help them gain the skills necessary to begin putting that plan into action. These skills <br />will be achieved in workshops, classroom, community activities, and individual counseling. <br />Each participant will be assessed to determine the principal barriers they face in pursuit <br />of a suitable career. <br />Next, each participant will participate in a series of four Upward Mobility workshops <br />that will help our participants overcome barriers to success in the workplace. We have <br />defined a series of UM workshops each 2 hours long. Participants may repeat these <br />workshops multiple times. (1) Job Interview Preparation. This workshop will teach <br />participants how to present themselves to employers, how to demonstrate enthusiasm for a <br />job opportunity, how to answer common interview questions, how to show a positive <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br />EXHIBIT A <br />
