Orange County Conservation Corps <br />Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board - The Youth Service Provider Network <br />Request for Proposal <br />PY 2010/2011 <br />• Membership with organizations and conference attendance that promote continuous <br />improvement. <br />6. Describe how adequate staffing will be maintained to ensure success of this program. <br />Two full-time Corps staff members will be responsible for recruiting Santa Ana youth. The <br />Recruiter will be responsible for recruiting and will allocate a portion of their time to specifically <br />recruit Santa Ana youth. The Program Specialist (case manager) assigned to the Santa Ana <br />WIA contract will be responsible for ensuring enrollment goals are met and will also allocate a <br />portion of their time to recruitment. Selected Santa Ana corpsmembers will be trained to <br />accompany staff and provide "peer recruitment" to assist staff with street outreach and help <br />organize and manage the Corps' booths at the various Santa Ana job fairs and community <br />events. Other Corps staff may also provide recruitment through ongoing collaborations and <br />networking with other agencies county-wide as in-kind support of this proposal. <br />D. Program Description <br />1. Describe the overall services that will be made available to the WIA participant. <br />EDUCATION <br />• Individual education goals (high school diploma and/or post-secondary instruction) <br />• Study skills; tutoring; secondary school instruction; dropout prevention strategies; <br />• Basic skills remediation; <br />• Literacy and numeracy gains; <br />• California High School Exit Exam; tutoring, preparation and administration; <br />• John Muir Charter School attendance & participation; earn high school diploma; <br />• Field-based learning activities to incorporate field work projects with the classroom; <br />• Quarterly recognitions, field trips, and other activities to build positive social interactions. <br />ORIENTATION (Three days; 27 hours of training) <br />• Introduction to the Orange County Conservation Corps Program <br />• Review corpsmember policies and procedures <br />• Complete eight hours of community activism awareness <br />• Complete eight hours of conservation awareness <br />• Learn proper tool use and safety <br />• Perform four hours of hands-on field work <br />PAID WORK EXPERIENCE <br />• Field-based vocational and occupational skills training; <br />• Develop positive work ethic/attitude/performance; <br />• Individualized job specific skill training and certifications; <br />• Crew based and individual leadership development; <br />• Community service opportunities; <br />• Team building and other crew/peer centered activities to develop responsibility and <br />positive social interactions. <br />• On the job training; internships <br />page 14 of 23 <br />EXHIBIT A
