<br />ensure each youth remains stably employed tlu-ou gh appropriate job training and placement.
<br />2. Proposed Program
<br />The SUFK OC proposed program addresses all 14 WIOA elements through two p1ima1y mentoring
<br />programs: "Journey to Se lf-Sufficiency" (JTS) fo r youth aged 18-24 (established in 2003), and "Road M ap
<br />to Success" (RMTS) for sc hoo l aged yo uth ( estab li s hed in 2014 ). The prima1y goa l of JTS is for each
<br />youth to remain stably house d and self-sufficient at one year. For school age youth, reconnected to
<br />secondary education, the goal is to graduate high school and successfull y transi ti on, post-graduation, to
<br />college, trade school, or viable work. In our experience, youth require at le ast 6 months to complete the
<br />mentoring programs, as they need time to develop the emotional assets, life skills and job skills to remain
<br />independent, long-term.
<br />The JTS cuniculum has 5 stages outlined below:
<br />Stage I: Basic Needs (housing, food, healthcare, transpo1tation, etc.)
<br />Stage 2: Employment Readiness (ID, resume, profess ional attire, labor market conditions/needs, and
<br />emp loyment goals)
<br />Stage 3: Employment Retention (professional etiquette, timeliness, job skills, internships , occupational
<br />training, GED, college ent1y)
<br />Stage 4: Financial Awareness (budgeting, banking, credit, ta xes, saving)
<br />Stage 5: Personal skills & home management (leadership d evelopment, community service, decision
<br />making, personal bounda1ies, co mmunication; cooking & homemaking/maintenance; rental, leases &
<br />depos its).
<br />Youth may also be re-connected to a secondary high school program . The RMTS curriculum for school-
<br />age youth is similar to JTS and al so has 5 st ages:
<br />Stage 1: Basic Needs and Stable Hous ing ,
<br />Stage 2: Education Stabilization,
<br />Stage 3: E mployment Preparation and Employment Retention,
<br />Stage 4: Personal Management and Financial Management, a nd
<br />Stage 5: Post-Graduation Preparation.
<br />Youth ages 16 and up may paiticipa te in th e "Work Activation Readiness Program" (WARP) providing
<br />work exp e1ience and job training that leads to viable work. The Work Acti vation Readiness Program
<br />(WARP) provides work expe1ience and occupational h·aining to prepare youth for the future workforce.
<br />Our community business paitners that provide work experience and occupational training to mentored
<br />youth include Bracken 's Kitchen (Culin ary), Seabreeze Management Co mpany (Property Management),
<br />Sentii Institute (Aimed Guard, Secmity Guard), Norooz (Health Clinic), Greenlight Cyber (Cyber Secmity
<br />Company). Youth employment go als may include pursuit of higher education or trade schoo l. T o that
<br />end, we help youth nav igat e ch allen ges associated w ith co llege/trade p reparation, college entry and
<br />financial aid. Once in college or trade school , we help them stay on the path to graduation.
<br />All yo uth that choose to enter the SUFK OC ment01ing programs re ceive full wrap-aro und support. They
<br />obtain access to supportive services including medical care, counseling, rehabilitation services, legal
<br />supp01t , credit repair, education , and transpo1tation. Youth receive assistance with rent, appropiiate
<br />clothing, food, hygiene and household items, as needed.
