<br /> <br />Page 12 of 17 <br /> <br />1120 n. granada drive, orange, california 92869 | 714 . 299 . 0330 | robert@janusconsultants.com <br />www.janusconsultants.com <br />J A N U S <br /> robert imboden, assoc. aia <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />The SOI Standards include the following recommendations for the existing balcony railing: <br />x Identify, retain and preserve metal features that are important in defining the overall <br />historic character of the building so that, as a result, the character is not diminished. <br />x Complying with life-safety codes in such a manner that the historic building’s character- <br />defining features and finishes to comply with life-safety code requirements. <br />x Retaining paint coatings that help to protect the wood from moisture and ultraviolet light. <br />Properly removing the existing paint coatings down to bare wood will address the lead <br />contamination. The application of primer and paint will also provide a protective coating to <br />preserve the feature. The proposed project will not remove or radically alter a character defining <br />feature so that the character of the diminished. <br /> JANUS recommends that the removal of the existing paint finish should be carried out using the <br />gentlest means possible.
