Fire protection requirements (Volume 2, Section 3404) <br /> <br /> The first paragraph of Section 3404 of the building code is amended by adding <br /> thereto the following: <br /> <br /> EXCEPTION: If additions, alterations or repairs made to any building constructed <br /> prior to January 1, 1946, other than an R-occupancy building, exceed fifty <br /> thousand dollars ($50,000.00) in cost in any one-year period, then either (A) the <br /> entire building must be completely sprinklered in accordance with fire department <br /> standards, or (B) the building must comply with all the following requirements: <br /> <br /> 1. The ceiling of a roof system shall be of one-hour construction, and <br /> all ceiling or wall penetrations shall have approved fire dampers. <br /> <br /> 2. All stairways shall be completely enclosed with one-hour <br /> construction to exits; and enclosed stairways or required exits shall lead <br /> directly to the outside of the building. <br /> <br /> 3.
