The project will provide a vital east-west link through Bakersfield and will tie into the SR-99 freeway. Responsible for providing design services from the geometric approval drawings through final PS&E, which is divided into three segments to correlate with funding cycles. Improvements included as part of this project were three full interchanges at major arterial street crossings, one bridge widening, four overcrossing structures (including two over the Friant-Kern canal), drainage systems (including pump stations), retaining walls, sound walls, and canal relocations. Extensive coordination is being provided with the utility and water agencies, identifying and addressing the relocation of their facilities.
