HISTORIC EXTERIOR MODIFICATION APPLICATIONNO.2002-03 <br />' Filed by Caribou Industries to modify the exterior facade f the existing United <br />Automotive historic building located at 100 S. Main Street <br />PUBLISHED IN THE REGISTER: November 2 , 2002 <br />PUBLICLY NOTICED: November 2 , 2002 <br />RECOMMENDATION.• <br />Approve Historic Exterior Moditcation Application N~. 2002-03. <br />Bob St. Paul, Associate Planner, presented the staff repolt and recommendation. <br />Discussion was held regarding the maintenance and inte rity of the shear wall, the <br />existing garage doors that were being replaced by a wind~pw, and the inaccuracy of the <br />elevations that had been provided. It was noted that the wilding had been retrofitted in <br />1989. <br />Commissioner Giles requested a special meeting to obtaijn clarification on the drawings. <br />Commissioner Gartner noted that it was an unfortunate drafting error but that he was not <br />in favor of delaying the project. <br />Madame Chair Kings opened the public hearing. <br />' No written communications were received and there werg no speakers on the matter. <br />Madame Chair Kings closed the public hearing. <br />William Beaubeaux, Architect with Caribou Industries, noted that the master plan had not <br />changed and that the request was only for the exterior mgdifications. Commissioner <br />Schaefer noted that he had toured the building and was Supportive of the project. <br />Commissioner Richardson noted that it was a rehabilitatipn project, not a restoration <br />project, and that he was in favor of moving the project follrvard. <br />Motion to approve Historic Exterior Modification App/ication No. 2002-03. <br />MOTION: Bustamante SECOND: Gartner <br />Discussion was held regarding the possibility of approving the project with conditions, <br />the use of tinted glass, the doors and frames to be used, the integrity of the existing roof <br />tile, and the restoration of the upstairs apartments. <br />Motion modified to approve Historic Exterior Modificlation Application No. 2002-03 <br />wifh the following conditions: <br />1. Rehabilitation to include moment frames for the two sheajr-wall bay openings on the First <br />Street elevation in order to create the appearance of win ows. <br />2. The bulk-heads under the windows are to match the exis ing brick. <br />3. All doors and frames to be consistent in appearance with other doors. <br />4.
