Age 5 — 6 yrs <br />Back to Natives presents this children's nature art class, taught by Founder /Director of Art Plantae, Tania Marien. <br />In this class, children will be introduced to natural science illustrator Marianne Wallace and her America's series. <br />Children will participate in a hands -on nature - themed art project using pen, ink and markers. After some close <br />observation of the world around them, children will create their own postcards about the Santiago Park Nature <br />Center. The young naturalists will also learn about plants, how they grow, and why plants are relevant to our lives. <br />The Learning through Natural Science Illustration Series introduces young naturalists in Kindergarten and I` grade <br />to the many ways natural science illustrators teach us about our natural world. Children must be accompanied by a <br />parent or guardian at all times. <br />LOCATION: Santiago Creek Nature Center, 600 E. Children will become more aware of butterflies and insects and the important role they often play as <br />pollinators. In a hands -on nature - themed art project using paper sculpture and gouache (similar to water colors), <br />children will create a beautiful butterfly life cycle. The young naturalists will also learn about plants, how they <br />grow, and why plants are relevant to our lives. The Learning through Natural Science Illustration Series introduces <br />young naturalists in Kindergarten and I" grade to the many ways natural science illustrators teach us about our <br />natural world. Memory Lane <br />DAY TIME SESSION <br />Sat IO:OOAM— l IAM 6/25 <br />Native Container gardening Workshop SOO /session <br />Ages 14 yrs &c up <br />Just in time for Mother's Day! Join Back to Natives staff and create a mini plant community using container <br />friendly natives. This one day workshop includes all materials (container, soil, plants, etc.). Participants take home <br />a beautiful, long lasting container garden perfect to give as a gift or to keep. <br />LOCATION: Santiago Creek Nature Center, 600 E. Memory Lane <br />DAY TIME SESSION <br />Sat 12:00 PM — 1 :30PM 5/7 <br />Utilizing Volunteers for Resource Management S45 /session <br />Ages 18 yrs 8& up <br />Resource managers and park staff from throughout Southern California are invited to join Reginald Durant, Director <br />of Restoration for Back to Natives Restoration. Reginald will discuss the use of volunteers for natural resource <br />management projects (invasive plant removal, biological surveys, habitat restoration, etc.). Back to Natives consults <br />with the USFS to conduct a restoration training program, and to survey burn areas for weeds using volunteers. <br />Learn how these projects — and YOURS — can benefit from the use of volunteers, and how your volunteer programs <br />can enrich the experience of park visitors. <br />LOCATION: Santiago Creek Nature Center, 600 E. Memory Lane <br />DAY TIME SESSION <br />Thu 2 :OOPM — 4:OOPM 5/12 <br />Orange County Butterflies and Their Most Plants S5 /class <br />Ages 14 yrs Si up <br />Join Back to Native's Director of Education Lori Whalen to learn about common and not so common Orange <br />County native butterflies! Learn which landscape quality locally native plants will attract butterflies to your yard. <br />After a brief indoor presentation, participants — armed with field guides — will hike the Nature Preserve trails to try <br />their hand at identifying the Park's winged inhabitants.
