The Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board/Youth Council 12012
Youth Business Network Project (YBNP)
interests for career paths and with the assistance of the case manager they can begin to map out
their path way toward self-sufficiency. This path way may include further long-term employment
with the current BN provider OR an opportunity to attend a post secondary school in an area of
interest that caine because of their `work -base' learning/training experience via the YBNP.
Compensation Plan —
The YBNP is designed under as `work -base learning' program. Each youth participant will be
required to complete X amount of learning hours while in the program. Every month each
participant will be given a stipend amount as a compensation for learning hours completed.
Again, the case manager will identify in the initial assessment the goals of each youth participant
and will aid accordingly by setting up post secondary opportunities if that's the goal OR by
ensuring that BN providers are aware upon placement that the youth participant is looking for
long term employment and be considered for employment opportunities as they arise during the
program. Those who have the opportunity to gain long term employment with a BN provider
prior to the 12month completion of the program will NOT be required to stay in the program
BUT will be considered a successful exit and will be encouraged to give back as a mentor to
others in the program. This mentorship will also serve as a means to maintain contact with
participants even after the program ends.
Length of the Program -
The YBNP is a 12month program that is based on learning hours completed. Each youth
participant will be required to complete 1080 learning hours per the 12month period and meet
with the case manager lx a week while in the program. Each participant will be required to
complete 2.5hrs per week for in -services hours and 20hrs per week for work -services hours. The
following table is the breakdown in the total services hours required per week, per month and per
year. Also take note that BN providers will also meet lx a month to discuss progress of each
youth, however these meetings are NOT limited to lx month.
Number of Service Hrs
In -services hrs
Work -services hrs
Total
# per week
2.5
20
22.5
# per month
10
80
90
# per year
120
960
1080
(Table two — Service -hours requirements)
In -services hours — these are `structured work experience' via workshops provided by the BN
providers to educate and train youth participants in a classroom setting. These workshops will
also include guest trainers/speakers within the community that will be able to motivate and
inspire youth participants on their journey.
Work -services hours — are `work -based learning activities' provided by BN providers for youth
participants throughout the program year.
4 1 11
a r e Exhibit A
