Orange County Conservation Corps <br />Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board - The Youth Service Provider Network <br />Request for Proposal <br />PY 201212013 <br />• Provide multiple work and educational experiences that will allow youth to seek a variety <br />of career and educational choices and opportunities <br />• Provide paid work experience, trainings, and certificates to develop and /or improve their <br />resumes for future employment; <br />• Develop and maintain a portfolio that highlights their work/school /credential <br />accomplishments to use in seeking employment post- program <br />• Complete high school credits to earn a high school diploma through the Orange County <br />Conservation Corps' Charter School; <br />• Improve basic skills and improve at least at least two grade levels on a standardized tests <br />(i.e., STAR, TABE); <br />• Practice and prepare to pass the CA High School Exit Exam; <br />• Earn scholarships for post- secondary instruction; <br />• Develop leadership skills through various crew based and individual trainings; <br />• Transition successfully from the Corps' program into employment and /or post- secondary <br />instruction; <br />• Complete work projects that benefit our local communities and instill a sense of <br />community service and pride in their communities. <br />2. Indicate the age group that will be served: 16 -21 years old <br />5.Describe the recruitment plan, indicate how the program will attract and interest youth: <br />The outreach and recruitment plan for this program will target youth most in need and will be <br />recruited through the following: <br />• Outreach to local organizations such as Boy & Girls Club, YMCA <br />• Local school districts and alternative schools <br />• County alternative schools <br />• Probation officers <br />• Youth and Family Resource Center <br />• Word -of -mouth <br />• Job fairs /presentations <br />In addition to the normal recruitment strategies of job fairs, partner networks, and presentations <br />to and referrals from local groups and organizations, the OCCC will employ "street outreach" to <br />recruit the WIA participants. Street outreach entails handing out flyers with the Corp's toll -free <br />telephone number (888.641.2677) and website address (www.hireyouth.org); and interacting <br />with youth where youth "hang out" in parks, malls, food courts, week -end community events, <br />and even walking local neighborhoods.
