August 27, 2014 Bowers Museum, SSA Project #14048 <br />SALLY SWANSON <br />ARCNITcCTS, INC. <br />Surfaces along a ROT that are required to be accessible must be firm, stable and slip- resistant. <br />Requirements apply to materials used for flooring, walks, curb ramps, pedestrian crossings, ramps, stairs, <br />and similar surfaces. Special provisions concerning cushions, pads, backing, pile -type, installation <br />methods and trims also apply when carpets or carpet tiles are used. Openings along the ROT may <br />also create hazard in the surface and often apply within exterior conditions where site drainage is also <br />a factor. <br />Factors to consider for compliance with surface conditions include the items as follows: <br />• Surface material <br />• Surface finish <br />• Slip- resistance <br />• Contrast in color or texture <br />• Change in sound of surface <br />• Openings <br />Where carpets are used or where grates occur along the ROT, samples of solutions to those conditions <br />are depicted in the figures as follows: <br />CARPET SURFACES <br />OPENINGS IN ROT <br />DOOR MATS <br />moil A40.Y Finki PLUSH on <br />AFIE:.
