2016 LEGISLATIVE PLATFORM SCORECARD <br />was broken in late 2016. These efforts <br />are serving to narrow the digital divide in <br />the community. <br />Collaborate with state and federal <br />representatives to identify literacy program <br />funding for collaborative efforts between the <br />Library and the Santa Ana Unified School <br />District. <br />• (PRCSA) The library has partnered with <br />the Santa Ana Unified School District to <br />provide all SAUSD students with a library <br />card. So far, students at three Santa Ana <br />high schools, four elementary schools <br />and eight Head Start programs have <br />received cards. <br />Collaborate with state and federal <br />representatives to identify opportunities to add <br />a new Public Library in the south part of Santa <br />Ana. <br />• (PRCSA) In an effort to extend library <br />services to residents located further <br />away from the Main and Newhope <br />Libraries, the library has placed satellite <br />services in several Community Centers. <br />Residents may visit teen centers in <br />Garfield and Jerome Centers, get <br />computer access and training at Garfield <br />and El Salvador Centers, and find <br />children's services at Garfield. Recently, <br />the library has begun an after - school <br />homework help program at the Delhi <br />Center. <br />Santa Ana Zoo <br />(Parks, Recreation and Community Services <br />Agency) <br />Work with state and federal representatives to <br />identify funding for climate change education to <br />be provided at the Santa Ana Zoo. <br />• (PRCSA) Worked with the U.S. <br />Geological Survey's Western Ecological <br />Research Center to develop and build a <br />new exhibit and breeding center for the <br />locally endangered Mountain Yellow - <br />Legged Frog, a species located in the <br />Santa Ana River drainage and directly <br />affected by climate change. Exhibit <br />signage will discuss effects of climate <br />change on animals and people. <br />• (PRCSA) Two zoo education staff went <br />through the National Network for Ocean <br />and Climate Change Interpretation <br />(sponsored by the National Science <br />Foundation) training workshop learning <br />best practices to communicate climate <br />change to the general public through <br />programs and signage. These climate <br />change education practices have been <br />incorporated into existing education <br />programs and will be integrated into the <br />new Zoo Master Plan and signage for the <br />new Giant River Otter exhibit. <br />GOAL 3: ECONOMIC <br />DEVELOPMENT <br />Robust, successful businesses bring jobs and opportunity <br />to the City and provide tax revenues for public services <br />that benefit the entire community.
