(.10¢) per Hundred Dollars ($100.00) of assessed valuation to raise <br />mo~ey to purchase water from the Metropolitan Water District to de- <br />posit in the Santa Ana River to replenish the underground water; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, such a tax would take no account of the fact that <br />for many years the City of Santa Ana has and does now collect taxes <br />in said City to support the Metropolitan Water District and to buy <br />and import water to conserve the underground waters; and <br /> <br /> Wht~EAS, said proposed amendment would allow the Orange <br /> <br />County Flood Control District to collect an additional tax of Ten <br />Cents (.10S) per Hundred Dollars ($100.00) of assessed valuation on <br />all areas in Orange County including those areas which have in the <br />past and do now, collect taxes to pay a portion of the Metropolitan <br />Water District cost and buy water at a cost of approximately twice <br />the pumping cost for the sole purpose of conserving and replenish- <br />ing said underground waters, which would result in a further tax <br />upon such areas that would be inequitable and result in double tax- <br />ation on areas in the Metropolitan Water District; and <br /> <br /> V~ttEREAS, a tax rate levied by the Orange County Metropolitan <br />Water District for the purpose of buying surplus Metropolitan Water <br />to deposit in the Santa Aha River to replenish said underground <br />water would be equitable, in that, it would tax areas not taxed for <br />conservation or replenishment of said underground basin prior to <br />1950-1951 Fiscal Year even though the tax burden on such areas for <br />such purpose would not be as great as on areas presently using <br />Metropolitan Water; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of Saata <br />Aha hereby protests the authorization or use of an increased tax rate <br />for the Orange County Flood Control District for the purchase of <br />surplus water from said Metropolitan Water District of Southern <br />California to be delivered into the Santa Aha River. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the City Council of Santa Aha <br /> <br />-2- <br /> <br /> <br />
