Procedure for such reduction shall follow the same procedure as <br /> outlined for merit advancements in section 7, and such employee may be con- <br /> sidered for readvancements under the same provisions as contained in sub- <br /> section (c) of section ?. <br /> <br /> Section 9~ Promotional S,~lary Advancement. When an officer or employee <br /> is promoted to a position in a higher classification he or she shall be assigned <br /> to ~ep A in the appropriate schedule for the higher classification; provided, <br /> however, that if such officer or employee is already being paid at a rate equal <br /> to or higher than said step A, he or she shall be placed in the lowest step in <br /> the appropriate salary schedul~ as vrlll grant hZm ~n increase of one salary step. <br /> <br /> Section 10: Demotion. ~'~en an officer o~' en~pluye~ is demoted to a <br /> position in a lower classification hi~ or her salary rat~: shall be fixed in the <br /> appropriate salary schedule for the lower alassification in accor~nce with the <br /> following provisions: <br /> <br /> (1) the salary rate shall be reduced by at least one step. <br /> <br /> (2) the new salary rate must be within the appropriate salary schedule. <br /> (3) the new salary rate cannot be higher that the salary step to which <br /> <br /> the officer or employee would have been entitled had his service time <br /> in the higher classification been spent in the lower class. <br /> <br /> (~) if the salary rate recommended by the haad of the department is <br /> lower than the maximum step permissible under subsection (3) above, <br /> such recon~endation shall be considered a r~duction in pay in addition <br /> to the demotion and shall be handled in accordance with the provisions <br /> for salary reductions. <br /> <br /> Section ll: Re-Allocation of Compensation Schedules. ~ny officer or <br /> employee who is employed in a classification which is re-allocated to a different <br /> pay schedule from that previously assigned shall be retained in the same salary <br /> step in the new schedule as he or she had previously held in the prior schedule <br /> and shall retain credit for length of service in such step toward advancement <br /> to the next higher step. <br /> <br /> Section 12: As,signment of Salary Steps for Present Employees. <br /> <br />(a) Present Salary ~ates. Any officer or employee who is receiving a salary or <br />wage rate, equal to or hi~her, on the date of ~doption of this resolution, than <br />~.s specified under this plan shall continue to receive said salary rate until <br />~;~ch bime as his total length of service shall entitle him to advance to the <br />~ higher pay step.
