Section 5: Beglnnin~ Rates. A new employee of the City of Santa <br />An& shal! be paid the rate shown as step A in the schedule allocated to <br />the class of employment for which he or she has been hired, except that on <br />the request of the department head, under whom the employee will serve, and <br />wlth the authorization of the City Manager such new employee may be placed <br />on step B; provided that such employee shall be assigned such salary step <br />upon the commencement of his or her servlce in the position or employment <br />to which the schedule applies and such assignment havlng once been made <br />shall remain in effect until the said employee sball be entitled to advance <br />to the next salary step In accordance with the further provisions of this <br />resolution. <br /> <br /> Section 6: Service. The word "service" as used in this resolution <br />shall be deemed to mean contlnuous~ full-time service In the position In <br />which the officer or employee Is being considered for salary advancement~ <br />service in a higher position or service in a position allocated to the same <br />salary schedule and having generally similar duties and requirements. A <br />lapse of service of an officer or employee for a period of time longer than <br />ten (10) days by reason of resignation or discharge shall serve to eliminate <br />the accumulated length of service time of such officer or employee for the <br />purposes of this resolution, and any such officer or employee re-entering <br />the service of the City shall be considered as a new officer or employee, <br />except that he or she may be re-employed within two (2) years and placed <br />In the same salary step In the appropriate compensation schedule as he or <br />she was at the time of the te~inatlon of employment. <br /> <br /> Section ?: Advancements within Schedules. The following regulations <br />shall govern salary advancements within schedules: <br /> <br />(a) Length of Service Advancements: After the salary of an officer or <br />employee has been first established and flxed under this plan. such officer <br />or employee shall be advanced from step A to step B or from step B to step <br /> <br />C~ whichever Is the next higher step to that on which the officer or employee <br />has been previously paid, effective the first day of the month following the <br />date of completion of the length of service required for such advancement as <br />provided in Section 2 hereof. <br /> <br />-6- <br /> <br /> <br />
